About
The Designer
The peoples and cultures of the world have always had a fascination for me. Only since retirement from the business world have I been able to fully devote my energies to my passion for ethnic jewelry, textiles/costumes(adornment) and other cultural folkart. I come from an artistic heritage and training. My parents continually encouraged my exploration of travel, worldwide arts and cultures, peoples and history. I have studied lapidary and silversmithing and maintained a fully equipped jewelry studio during the 1970-80s in San Francisco area. My husband and I have deliberately sought unusual and exotic adventures destinations, pursuing and observing cultures in transition due to rapid globalization. Many of these trips have been highly focused with scholars and ethnographers. This has allowed us to get behind the scenes and close to the people, their cultural history, behavior and arts. These travels encompass over 100 countries and many cultures. I have also had the opportunity to lead focus groups to some cultural areas. My primary focus is ethnic jewelry, textiles/costumes(adornment) and folkart and the role they play in the peoples' lives. This fascination has also resulted in a growing personal collection of such items.I now pursue these passions----traveling worldwide acquiring native specimens, studying technique and materials, and fabricating my own one-of-a kind jewelry and textile designs. My long-term association with a world renown folkart museum has further sharpened my enthusiasm. My work appears in Boutiques, Galleries, private collections and in various high-end juried shows, such as the following: • Artfest, various Southwest United States locations, primarily Scottsdale • San Diego Artwear, San Diego, and Carmel Valley Artists, bi-annually • Africa and Beyond Gallery, La Jolla • Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, MA • Bowers Museum of Cultural Art Gallery, Santa Ana, CA • Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, CA • San Diego Museum of Art Gallery • The Folk Art Gallery, San Rafael, CA • Mingei International Museum Collectors Gallery, San Diego, CA • Craft and Folk Art Museum, Los Angeles, CA • Rubin Museum of Art, New York • KOOS, Madison Avenue, New York • Himalayan Crafts, New York, New York • Santa Barbara Hist.Mus.Tribal Arts • To Bead to Blue, Tucson, AZ • Boehm Gallery, Palomar State College, San Diego Solo exhibitions of my collection of Minority Chinese Adornment: La Jolla FiberArts Gallery, 1998 UC San Diego, January-March 2004 San Diego Chinese Historical Museum, April-June 2007 UC Davis Wheeler Museum, Coming September 2010 - November 2010 Artists’ Membership Affiliations: San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild, former juried member and past Board Member San Diego Artwear, member by jury
